AZERBAIJAN Dated October 20, 1928 and inscribed
Three Medallion Design
Inscription: 1928 TIV OCT 20th GEGHETSIGH G.

Geghetsigh means "beautiful" and is sometimes used as a girl's name. The simple, rhythmic pattern and deep rich color of this magnificent rug makes this an impressive masterwork for some obscure Armenian villager. The rug is in the tradition of weaving done in the Kurdish area near Souj-Boulak. The initial "G" could be for gin, meaning "bride." The red band outlining the medallions is reminiscent of the "saw-tooth medallion" Karabagh style, while the outlining detail within the medallions is similar to the Khatchk'ar Kazaks.
