As a decorative painter I have found the dramatic union of my artistic and home renovation skills. Interior painting has come a long way from the off white walls of the nineteen eighties. The wall finishing techniques I employ come from years of self practice and more recently from training at perhaps the very best American faux painting school,

The Finishing School in NYC. The revolutionary faux painting products, which can only be distributed to Finishing School graduates, are to be appreciated by looking at the wide range of wall finishes on my sample boards. Some of these samples are over the fireplace here at Gregorian Rugs.

My muralling and trompe l'oeil skills come from my many years making fine art . Few places do I go without a sketchbook. I've painted tropical landscape murals and I've painted a Fenway Park mural. At Gregorian you will see I chose the traditional European classic ruins landscape. My style however is more American folk art with a simplification and idealization of the features, and also with a multiple perspective composition.

Trompe l'oeil adds great theatrics to a room. Vases, Greek columns, flowing fabrics, flowers and vines, all can be painted onto walls. Painting onto canvas is also done, the canvas then cut and wallpapered onto the wall for possible future transferral.

The skill of composing rooms and walls comes from years of practice. The final look of a space is most often, though, a collaboration between the homeowner and/or the interior decorator and myself. Remember all this work of decorative painting is done by hand, each creation unique. Glazes and texture products are hand colored. Samples are made to start the process.

Gregorian's fireplace corner is a sample of what I have to offer as a decorative painter. Scott Bickerton
